Grady Dickinson is a wonderful alto saxophonist who will be headlining our Wednesday festivities for the first time. Bassist Given Graber is part of so many projects in Chattanooga! He helped organize our Sunday Jazz Jam (before the pandemic, soon to return), and he’s performed here with Seaux Chill, Robin Grant and many others. Rounding out the quartet are Steve Vincent and Randy Wensel. We hope you’ve been vaccinated, we hope you’ll wear a mask if you’re more comfortable, but it’s time to give the new normal a go. No documentation required, All except those with worrisome symptoms are welcome; please use judgement. And the admission is just $5 at the door (with encouragement that those who can tip the band a bit extra).
We encourage you to come a bit early (6pm) to hear a fascinating presentation on the history of our neighborhood—Ridgedale—developed and delivered by seniors from McCallie School. Over the past 18 months, McCallie students, alumni, parents, and former parents became part of a Community Engagement Task Force established through the Moving Forward Together As Brothers Initiative, created in the summer of 2020. This group began to explore and discover meaningful ways to be better partners and neighbors in Ridgedale. The students spent time researching the history of Ridgedale and McCallie to learn the past, present, and future ways the school may engage and strengthen their relationship and celebrate what makes Ridgedale the diverse and vital Chattanooga neighborhood it is today. The research culminated in a student presentation to Ridgedale and McCallie community members. Going forward, McCallie will participate in opportunities that enrich the lives of our Ridgedale residents and McCallie community, too. McCallie seniors, Levi Lebovitz and Jerry Zhang will be the presenters. The presentation is free and open to the public. We hope many will stay on to hear Given Graber’s edition of Jazz in the Lounge.
