Stagner, Murray & Crompton: Tributes

  • Barking Legs Theater 1307 Dodds Avenue Chattanooga, TN, 37404 United States (map)

Stagner, Murray & Crompton is a trio of two drummers and a saxophonist, brought together by Jeff Crompton to play a piece called “Tributes” - partially composed, but mostly improvised. “Tributes” honors four iconic drummers: Max Roach, Johnny Vidacovich, Joe Morello, and Sunny Murray.

Chattanooga native Bob Stagner is a legendary figure in the Old-Time Southern Avant-Garde. A founding member of the Shaking Ray Levis, he has performed and recorded with Derek Bailey, Rev. Howard Finster, Rev. Fred Lane, and many other icons of avant-garde music.

Kenito Murray is one of Atlanta's most accomplished and versatile drummers. He is perhaps best known for touring and recording with the legendary Sun Ra saxophonist Marshall Allen.

Jeff Crompton is an Atlanta saxophonist and composer. His past credits include performances with Michael J. Smith, the 4th Ward Afro-Klezmer Orchestra, and Rev. Fred Lane. He currently leads several ensembles, including Three Way Mirror and the Edgewood Saxophone Trio.

At Barking Legs, Stagner, Murray & Crompton will play solos, duos, and trios, culminating in the performance of “Tributes.”

Tickets are $20 at the door.
