THIS EVENT IS A PART OF BARKING LEGS THEATER’S 30TH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION!
We began our 30th Anniversary Celebration with one linchpin of our jazz program, Alan Wyatt, and we’re bringing things to a culmination and close with another central figure, Dexter Bell. Dexter has been a monthly feature of Wednesday Jazz since the beginning, and his evenings are known as some of the most celebratory, with a rotating cast of characters sure to include some of the areas most dynamic players and singers.
For any of you who aren’t familiar with Dexter, though still a young man, he’s become a legend in the community, whether for his jazz/blues/funk bass playing, his bandleading, as a member of the Chattanooga Symphony, or as a teacher at Howard High. How about all of the above!
I can’t tell you how frequently I’m asked to bring Dexter into the big space, so there he’ll be, a fitting capper to our celebration. Like Alan, Dexter’s planning to bring even more players, singers and energy to the main stage than he does to the Lounge. I believe it’s fair to anticipate he and his many musical friends will more than rise to the occasion.
Student admission just $10 at the door.
Our Community Connector for the evening is the music program Dexter heads at Howard High. Specifically, we’re hoping to get folks to pass musical instruments from their closets, attics and basements into active use by music students! Or contribute to a fund to purchase instruments. Learn more in our lobby throughout the evening.
