THIS EVENT IS A PART OF BARKING LEGS THEATER’S 30TH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION!
We have taken particular delight in watching the evolution of the music of guitarist Alan Shikoh. Alan was rigorously trained in classical guitar, and that technique remains at the heart of his guitar playing. His musical interests have always been broad—he toured for several years with a metal band—and his primary project has been to apply his classical chops to jazz standards. While for most of us, the heart of jazz to explore its harmonic and melodic structures through improvisation, Alan’s investigations enrich these structures through highly imaginative compositional permutations. The results are absolutely beautiful.
Barking Legs has been a part of Alan’s musical journey for years. He fondly recalls hearing guitarist Preston Reed while in high school. He has played our Jazz in the Lounge series quite a few times, and it’s a measure of the impact of his playing that solo acoustic guitar holds the audience in our more informal space raptly attentive. This concert presents all of us the opportunity to experience his music in a true concert setting. Can’t wait!
Student admission $10 at the door.
Community Connection for this show is Barque BBQ. Pitmaster Marcus Willis and Co. are making some super BBQ just a few paces down Main Street, and they’ll be sharing a taste and some info about their very local business before the show. Another great spot for dinner before Wednesday Jazz in the Lounge!
