THE OLD-TIMEY AVANT-GARDE SERIES featuring THE MOLECULES – KORYBANTES – RED OKRA KING –
KONK PACK – NIEF-NORF PROJECT – THE HOME OF EASY CREDIT
Taking its name from the paradoxical description of The Shaking Ray Levis performing group, The Old-Timey Avant-Garde Series in the month of October aims to hold fast to the band’s tradition of breaking traditions. Centering on a birthday celebration for the late Dennis Palmer, co-founder of both the band The Shaking Ray Levis and the non-profit arts education organization The Shaking Ray Levi Society, the series will feature a mind-bogglingly wide variety of astounding, ear-and-mind-opening sounds from both the improvised and composed music realms, by some of the most fascinating and acclaimed performers in the world today.
THE MOLECULES, KORYBANTES, RED OKRA KING (Thurs. Oct. 3, 9 pm, $10) Formed in 1990, the Bay Area trio The Molecules built a reputation for its frenetic, no-holds-barred live performances and unclassifiable, unique rock amalgam that stretches the limits of punk, noise, prog-rock and more, featuring front man guitarist/vocalist Ron Anderson who was a founding member of the legendary no-wave/noise band Rat At Rat R in the early ‘80s. Opening the show will be the brand new free-improv trio Korybantes featuring bassist Evan Lipson (Normal Love), drummer Bob Stagner (Shaking Ray Levis) and Rick Weaver (Dinner Music), and the world’s foremost expert on gnome mythology, Red Okra King.
