Reflections On 29 Years Of Collaboration

Just a last 2019 reflection from Ann Law, founder of Barking Legs and executive director of CoPAC:"In 1991 when I moved to Chattanooga, TN from New York City, I met another dancer born and raised in Chattanooga who became not only one of the best dancing partners I have ever had but an empowering source of energy."There was no Barking Legs in the beginning, just an empty room in my house that became CoPAC's first office space. Our first production, "Busride to Heaven" by Mark Dendy (a NYC artist who had studied with the famous Chattanooga dance teacher Nancy Lane Wright), was presented in Nancy's Dance Theatre Workshop studio on Hixson Pike. On that bus was a transvestite, a drug user, a Baptist preacher's wife, and a child who were all going to heaven. The dance studio barely held the 30 members in the audience the first night but when 104 people arrived the second night, we made room and also realized the need for an arts organization in Chattanooga that was going to push some boundaries!"After all these years, Beth and I continue to move together. In September, we gladly collaborated once again with Scott Burland and Frank Schultz of "Duet for Theremin and Lap Steel", and in November we joined forces to create "Whispers"."Celebrating one of the reasons I continue!Thank you Beth Markham Herring!"
