Hops & Opera

Hops & Opera, a Chattanooga-born concert style mixing classical singing with locally-brewed craft beer, is back for its eighth installment since its 2009 debut. This time featuring the professional singers of local ensemble Voci Virili along with beer from St. Elmo’s Tap House, this all-male concert will mix grand opera arias with Broadway favorites.

Music from opera includes arias and duets by Bizet, Mozart, Gershwin, Lehar, Lully, and Rachmaninoff; songs from Broadway shows like South Pacific, Fiddler on the Roof, Ragtime, Lend Me a Tenor, and The Last Five Years; and male choruses from Porgy & Bess, Ragtime, The Magic Flute, Tannhäuser, Nabucco, and South Pacific.

Soloists from the ensemble include tenors Jeron Burney, James Frost, Daniel Spivey, Harv Wileman, Nicholas Branson, Michael Westmoreland, and Bob Sauser; baritones Aaron Murphy, Scott Willis, and Stephen Hawkins; bass-baritones John Mburu and Kim Thompson; and bass Harrison Cooke. Artistic Director Harv Wileman emcees. Terry Sanford tickles the ivories.

Each $15 ticket includes two free beers straight from a Tap House keg (with additional beers available for $4). Get a buzz from your favorite show music – or try it for the first time. Seating is limited to 130 and tickets will go fast.
