Holland Hopson: Banjo, Voice, Electronics

Holland Hopson works from very traditional material, and with his voice, his banjo and electronics creates a beautiful and hypnotic music that somehow respects tradition while sounding very contemporary. Timeless is a fair characterization, I do believe. Have a listen below. Very special.

He’ll be performing solo as well as being joined by musicians and dancers from the Chattanooga community.

“…vocalist-banjo player Holland Hopson magnificently melded old-timey roots music with 21st century technology…”
–Greg Haymes, The Albany Times Union

“And, a new and wonderful discovery for this reviewer, Holland Hopson set his haunting vocals about a desolate landscape with ‘no road lead[ing] straight home’ against layers of clawhammer banjo woven together via computer processing and a foot pedal.”—ArtsBham, “Birmingham Art Music Alliance

“…a haunting, often mesmerizing album of old songs and new sounds.” — Michael Eck, Albany Times Union

“…beautifully performed original and traditional folk songs set against an electronic dreamworld.” — David Zicarelli, Cycling ’74
