2009 Circus Camp at Barking Legs!

The Circus Camp at Barking Legs will be a fun-filled week of art, music and movement that will culminate in a circus, created and performed entirely by the campers!

Our annual summer Circus Camp is is for children ages 6 to 12 years, who will be divided up into small groups to work on scenery, movement, and music. The morning will be broken up into three sections, allowing everyone time to work with each teacher each day:
Art with Jas Milam will have them making props and costumes, Movement with Ann Law will have them doing thrilling stunts, trapeze artistry and dances, while Music with Bob Stagner will have them providing the backgroup music and sound effects for the final Circus Performance at the end of the camp. Family and friends are invited to watch. A cake reception in the garden out back will follow. DVDs are available for purchase of this event.

A healthy vegetarian snack is provided by Barking Legs.

The goal is for your child to be able to play and express themselves creatively in a cooperative and non-competitive environment. We promise a wacky-fun me!

The camp runs three sessions in 2009:

Jas Milam is a native Chattanoogan who lives on Missionary Ridge. In addition to her studio work, Jas is one of Allied Arts’ teaching artists and has designed and taught programs for Hunter Museum, Chattanooga Parks and Recreation and the Creative Arts Guild in Dalton. She is a former board member of AVA and has been nominated for Tennessee Woman Artist of the Year. Jas is currently working on a Masters in Art and Art Therapy and conducting workshops for individuals and groups at the Rivoli Art Mill in East Lake. She has 2 children, Max age 11 and Molly age 7. www.jasmilam.com

Ann Law is the artistic director of Barking Legs Theater and CoPAC (Contemporary Performing Arts of Chattanooga) and is a well-known dancer and dance educator in the Southeast. She has a BFA in dance and a Masters in Dance Education. She spent 5 years developing a Creative Dance program for elementary school children, which has been accepted into several Hamilton County Schools. She is currently developing the new dance program at Chattanooga State, which will begin Fall of 2008. Her Passion Flower Project, a multi-media performance that documents her experience with breast cancer, will start touring in 2008. Ann has a daughter, Leah, age 10. www.barkinglegs.org

Bob Stagner is a critically acclaimed percussionist and percussion instructor who has performed extensively internationally. He is a founding member of the Shaking Ray Levi Society (SRLS), a 20-year strong arts education organization that provides educational programs in local schools and other public settings, and supports emerging artists in performance, art and film. Stagner also works with The Rhythmic Arts Project (TRAP), founded by drummer Eddie Tuduri. TRAP is an percussion–based educational program for people with disabilities that employs drums and percussion to teach and enhance basic life skills as well as spatial awareness, fine and gross motor skills, and speech. www.shakingray.com, www.traponline.com
